Akzo Nobel Purchases Tank Car Mixers to Speed Unloading of Tallow
May 14, 2001: Clinton, Connecticut: Cleveland-Eastern Mixers is pleased to announce that Akzo Nobel recently took delivery of four, 7.5 HP Tank Car Mixers to make the process of unloading tallow more efficient.
Constructed in 316 grade stainless steel, the mixers are fitted with a mounting flange to bolt directly to the cars' manway. The mixers are designed to draw material in from the upper portions of the tank and discharge it bi-directionally at the bottom, including remote recesses of the tank car. A high flow pattern is created to prevent settling or stratification of materials.
Akzo Nobel will use the tank car mixers to speed the unloading of in-bound raw materials by as much as 50%. The tank car mixers are furnished with heating coils, which melt the tallow, allowing the product to circulate throughout the tank.
Raja Mathew, Senior Project Engineer at Akzo Nobel in Illinois , commented “We used to put steam coils in rail cars to melt the tallow, but it was very time consuming. With Cleveland-Eastern Tank Cars we will be able to heat the material much more quickly. That means less down-time in our process.”
A lifting eye provides easy mounting to the tank car. A clamp is provided to fasten the mounting flange and prevent fumes or odors escaping. General applications include chemicals, paint, varnish, petroleum-based products, corn syrups and vegetable oils.
