Top Entry Mixer 1Cleveland BHD Series Top Entry Mixer

Ordinary commercial reducers can't stand up to typical mixing requirements - high bending and thrust loads on the output shaft, reliable round-the-clock operation, and absolutely no leakage of gear lubricant into the product being mixed.

BHD reducers are engineered and built specifically to handle the unique and demanding requirements of mixing applications. The spiral bevel/helical gear reducer is designed for the tough mixing requirements in industries like chemical processing, food processing, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical, power generation, mining and waste and water treatment.

Engineered for smooth, quiet operation and long, trouble-free service life, the BHD Series provides the optimum in mixer service: spiral/bevel gearing for the greatest efficiency in power transmission and speed reduction. The BHD series is available in 7 case sizes, with a range from 1 to 200 horsepower, and turbine speeds from 16 to 230 RPM. It also features generous over-hung load capacities in every model. Gearing is combination AGMA Class #10 helical and spiral-bevel gearing for highest drive efficiency designed specifically for mixer service. Gear reducers meet ISO 9001 standards and are rated in excess of the AGMA 6010 standard. A rugged housing withstands the stresses of mixing and maintains accurate component alignment.

Gear Reducer Features

Rugged Steel Housing - Fabricated steel housing effectively resists shock loads and stresses associated with mixing applications and maintains accurate gear alignment.

Low Headroom - right angle construction

Large Oil Capacity - Lowers operating temperatures to help oil retain higher viscosity, extending gear, bearing and seal life. Auxiliary cooling systems are also available.

Splash Lubrication - Efficient splash oil lubrication is standard. No pumps or piping to fail or maintain. A dip stick is provided for ease of maintenance checks. A magnetic drain plug and breather are standard.

Larger, Long-life, Grease-Lubricated Bearings - With a minimum L-10 life three times that of standard commercial reducers- and in excess of industry standards for most applications - the upper and lower output shaft tapered roller bearings withstand high impeller loads and insure maximum life. A grease baffle on the upper bearing retains grease and prevents it from entering the unit.

Proven High-Hardness Helical Gearing - Engineered to exceed AGMA standards with a reserve strength rating, the surface-hardened, precision-ground, long-life helical gears deliver a smooth, strong, efficient power flow. Large tooth profile provides extra strength to handle high-shock loads.

Precision Spiral Bevel Gearing - Surface hardening and finish lapping ensure smooth, quiet operation and greater gear efficiency. The spiral bevel pinion is housed in an easy to service cartridge reducing rebuild time.

Fast, Easy Ratio Changes to Accommodate Process Changes - With helical gearing contained in the high-speed head, the BHD gives you maximum ratio flexibility. To change ratios, simple replace the pinion and gear. For a reduction change, just replace the high-speed head with optional helical gears readily available from stock.

Large-diameter, high-capacity output shafts to accommodate the high-bending moment loads common in mixing applications.

Optional Hollow Output Shaft - The BHD is also available with a hollow shaft output connection for direct mixer shaft insertion

Comprehensive Leak Protection - Covers, shims, gaskets and blind-tapped end cover holes help retain lubricant, eliminate oil leakage and keep contaminants out to reduce maintenance and downtime.

No-Leak Drywell Low-Speed Construction - a drywell isolates the low-speed output shaft from the oil sump to prevent lubricants from leaking and contaminating your product.

Additional Heavy Duty Top Entry Mixer Features

Like all Cleveland Top & Side Entry Mixers, a wide variety of impeller designs, motors, and closed tank seals are offered to meet your exact process requirements.

The BHD Mixers are supplied for both open and closed vessels.

Mountings

For open tank models, a fabricated steel base supports and aligns the foot mounted motor to the gear reducer. The rigid base is designed to prevent flexing when mounted to support beams over the top of the vessel. Cleveland will provide technical recommendations for beam size and methods of securing the drive base.

For closed tanks, the motor and gear reducer are secured to a barrel or pedestal support. The bottom of the pedestal is fitted with either a 150# or 300# standard IPS flange sized to mate with your tank nozzle. Within the pedestal mounting is your choice of a sealing device - mechanical, packing or vapor seal.

Couplings

The BHD Series includes a high-speed flexible coupling between the motor and gear reducer. A welded flange connection is offered on the output shaft.

A removable coupling, either straight bore, or taper bored, is standard with a mechanical seal or stuffing box. Either of the above can be furnished as an in-tank coupling to facilitate installation of long shafts.
